About the session

The right strategy guides a business, gives it purpose, and helps people make good decisions.

In this workshop, Sophie will remind us of what a good strategy does: what it looks like and why it should matter to you to invest your time and energy in developing one for your product or business. You will learn the key stages in developing a strategy, and the user-centred design skills and methods to apply at each stage.

About the speaker(s)

Sophie Dennis

Sophie is a strategic design consultant and coach. She helps organisations deliver better services by putting user needs at the heart of their digital strategy, and is passionate about the transformative power of human-centred design for organisations and society.

Sophie works mainly as an embedded consultant within client organisations, specialising in healthcare, public and third sector. She leads ambitious user research and discovery programmes, defines digital product and service strategy and helps build high-performing teams able to deliver high-quality, user-centred digital services at pace. She is a regular conference speaker and chair of the Service Design in Government conference, helping shape the conversation about the future of design for public services and social good.

With over 20 years' experience leading multi-disciplinary teams on strategic content, design and development projects, she's worked for, amongst others, NHS Digital, Public Health England, the Department for Work and Pensions, the National Trust, Land Registry, Bristol City Council, the University of Surrey, Jisc and the Office for National Statistics - and world-leading experience design agencies CX Partners and Nomensa.

Sophie most recently led work on digital experience strategy for urgent and emergency care for NHS Digital/England/X, and the definition of the new design language and information architecture for the NHS website (nhs.uk). Before that she founded the service design practice at the Department for Work and Pensions and set up the user-centred design team at Land Registry.
