About the session
Theme: Sustainable design
Our quest to put people at the centre of the design process is outdated and must now evolve.
While human-centred design has unquestionably helped to improve the lives of people, this relentless focus on people has blinded us to detrimental consequences for other species, our environment and climate.
This talk reveals the environmental impact of the internet, shows what nature itself can teach us about sustainable design and introduces simple tools to help us decarbonise user journeys.
Participants will leave with new perspectives and a new toolkit to help them reduce the environmental impact and improve the user experience of their products and services.
Participant takeaways:
- why human-centred design is no longer enough in the context of the climate emergency
- why the internet is more polluting than the aviation industry
- what nature can teach us about sustainable design
- practical and simple methods to adopt the W3C’s ‘Web Sustainability Guidelines’ to help decarbonise user journeys and improve the user experience
- how to apply and adapt your existing UX skills, knowledge and approaches to help you design more sustainable experiences
