About this Hands-On

Innovation isn’t simple. Coming up with new ideas when you or your client have been living and breathing the business for a long time can feel daunting. In this session, we’ll work through a selection of our innovation workshop activities, which help teams think from a different perspective. Expect Death Stars, Sonic Screwdrivers and Minions to help you along the way.

About the Speakers

Joanne Richardson

With over a decade of industry experience, Joanne has supported organisations such as the BBC, NHS and Teachers’ Pensions to better understand their customers and to design digital services and products that meet their needs, whilst maintaining usability and engagement.

Joanne is passionate about following a research-driven approach to bridge the gap between both business and customer needs, unveiling new opportunities and selecting appropriate cutting-edge digital technologies along the way.

Joanne works as the UX Director for digital agency Orange Bus, headquartered in Newcastle upon Tyne. By providing strategic-level input to clients, she leads the UX team to design and build the interaction layer between users and technology.


Hannah Kaner

Hannah has 7 years of experience across public health research, app development, advertising, service design and smart city strategy. She has worked with clients such as Ticketmaster, MBNA and Newcastle City Futures to push exciting and sustainable digital and customer engagement strategies.

Hannah is a consultant at Orange Bus, based in Edinburgh. She believes in processes driven by people, and design based on clear and empathetic engagement with user and customer needs. Any problem can be solved by refreshing the angle of approach and the tools that we use.

With a background in writing, literature, smart city development and game theory, Hannah has found that the most successful approaches to digital transformation and user engagement have been those driven by effective research and creative thinking.
